About the talk:
Fitness trackers, meditation apps, sleep headbands, smart scales… new commercial products that want to help us become happier and healthier are surrounding us. But, how can one make any sense of the plethora of technologies available? And do they really benefit our wellbeing? My research focuses on understanding the design qualities that make successful technologies for health and wellbeing. In this talk, I will outline key current trends in Human-Computer Interaction research on designing for health and wellbeing. I will discuss key examples of futuristic wellbeing technologies, studies that help us understand technologies for wellbeing and design ideas that help us imagine how computer systems will support our lives in the future. Finally, I will discuss challenges for the future development of technologies that meaningfully engage us to help us lead more fulfilling lives.
