Together against street harassment: join Actie Aletta

Street harassment. Most women are familiar with it. Being catcalled whilst cycling along the Oudegracht, an unwanted comment at a traffic light, worrying about how and when you’ll get home. We’ve almost become desensitised to it, and that is precisely the problem. Women’s freedom and safety is a shared social responsibility
On Tuesday 26 May, the national university tour ‘Actie Aletta’ kicks off in Utrecht, at TivoliVredenburg, and you can join the discussion on how we can structurally ensure women’s freedom and safety. Minister Elanor Boekholt-O'Sullivan’s initiative brings together students, academics and policymakers to find solutions to this issue. In Utrecht, the focus will be on what concrete steps we can take to tackle street harassment.
The evening will be opened by Mayor Sharon Dijksma. Afterwards, chair Oscar Kocken will lead a discussion with the audience, featuring academic Mischa Dekker (Leiden University), Annemarie Lekkerkerker (@lekkeran), Laura Jak from Movisie and Hessel Schaaf from Emancipator. The evening combines academic insights, an interactive bystander training session and a panel discussion.
Your contributions from that evening will be compiled with the findings from fifteen other student cities and presented to the government. So your experience as a student in Utrecht really does count when it comes to developing national solutions.
