The new Biology Teacher of the Year is Ben Nelemans!

Biology Teacher of the Year (2023) Ben Nelemans

Below you can read more about Ben and his teaching:

"As an associate professor in the courses Biology of Animals, Developmental Biology, Animal Physiology, Evolutionary Developmental Biology and Evolution 3, you can see where my interest lies; in the question of how living tissue functions and how it can change during its development and evolution. Many important human-social questions and medical needs can be helped from these disciplines, which is why I feel it is important to teach students some of these disciplines in their education."

I want to keep our education human

"I mainly see myself as a coach and want to keep education human. Therefore, I like to spar with students about theory, teaching, and their study process: how can we make this even better and more inspiring? In many courses, I, therefore, use multimedia applications, minimize Blackboard for more overview, and introduce modern and interactive materials and teaching methods. In addition, I also find it important to make connections with society; how can the student use her/his biological expertise? I am still full of ideas for educational improvement that I would like to put to use in the coming years and it is immensely motivating to hear that you people appreciate my commitment to this, thanks!"
