Strikes against higher education cuts

The AOb and FNV, among others, announce relay strikes at educational institutions across the Netherlands. The strikes are directed against the severe cuts in higher education. Some of the students and staff at Utrecht University want to go on strike on 11 March.

The Executive Board and the deans endorse the importance of taking action against the irresponsible and unacceptable cuts and understand that staff and students want to speak out against it. At the same time, we believe it is important that research and teaching can continue. The university will therefore remain open on 11 March. This is in line with how other universities (in the UNL context) intend to deal with the announced relay strikes.

The Executive Board and deans continue to support other actions against the cuts, such as the demonstration on Malieveld last year. The board also continues to engage with ministers and policymakers in political The Hague.
