Recordings made in Teams of meetings will from August 7th be saved in SharePoint or OneDrive instead of Stream, the video service of Office 365.
The new recording saving method offers several advantages. It makes it easier to set permissions on individual recordings, recordings can be shared with external parties and recordings will be available faster after a meeting. Recordings of old meetings that are already in Stream will remain there for the time being. In the future, these recordings will be migrated to SharePoint or OneDrive.
From 7 August onwards, when saving recordings, the type of meeting is taken into account.
Two meeting types can be distinguished:
- A Teams meeting that is connected to a channel of a team
When you have a team open, first choose the channel on the left in which you want to work. By default this is the 'General' channel. Then you can select 'Schedule a meeting' in the top right corner via the arrow (next to 'Meetings'). This way you schedule a meeting linked to a channel. These recordings will be saved in the SharePoint site that is automatically linked to the team by Teams. Recordings can be found afterwards in the 'Posts' tab of the channel. When you click on the recording, automatically a new browser will open in which the recording will be played.
Do you want an overview of all recordings of a certain channel? Then choose 'Files' in Teams at the top of the channel and click the 'Recordings' folder. The folder 'View Only' contains all recordings of that channel. The persons who have access to that channel in Teams will also have access to the recordings.
- Other Teams meetings
These meetings are created by clicking on the ‘New Teams Meeting’ button in Outlook or by using the calendar in Teams. These recordings will be stored in the OneDrive of the person who presses the ‘Record’ button during the meeting. On OneDrive root level a folder 'Recordings' will be created automatically. This folder will contain the recordings. When the recording is finished, automatically every meeting invitee will get access to the recording, except external parties. The recording should be shared with them explicitly. The recording can be viewed from the OneDrive folder, but also from the meeting chat in Teams.
