New Wi-Fi network ‘Utrecht University’ to replace eduroam
As a UU student, you can use the Wi-Fi network ‘eduroam’ to connect your laptop or mobile device to the UU network (e.g. for the U drive). This will change. For UU staff and students, there is now a new Wi-Fi network called ‘Utrecht University’. This network is available in all shared and other UU buildings and will replace eduroam.
The reason for the change is that more and more educational and other institutions are being housed in the same building. This causes problems in practice (see the background information at the end of this message).
What do you have to do?
Configure the ‘Utrecht University’ Wi-Fi network on your laptop (next time you are at the university) or mobile device by going to the Wi-Fi settings. Then log in with your UU email address and password, just like with eduroam.
You can find the instructions for your device on the manuals website, which offer a step-by-step description of how to configure the new Wi-Fi network.
What will happen if I do nothing?
Although eduroam will continue to exist, as of 1 December 2021, you will only be able to use it to access the internet. From that date, access to specific UU services (such as the U drive) will be disabled on eduroam. This means you will have to connect to the ‘Utrecht University’ Wi-Fi network to access these services. While the change is still a few months away, we recommend connecting to this Wi-Fi network in the meantime.
