Kick-off: 'Sheltered Garden' (redevelopment of Coïmbrapad)
The square at Coïmbrapad on the Utrecht Science Park (between the Langeveld Building and the University Library) is being redeveloped. Earlier this year, students, staff and other users of the USP were able to vote on two design proposals for the redesign of the square. More than 2,100 participants cast their vote. The design Sheltered Garden was selected. Afterwards, residents helped to further develop the design.
Stichting Utrecht Science Park is working on this project together with Utrecht University. The redevelopment will give the square a greener and more sheltered layout, with space to meet and a more pleasant place to spend time.
Work has started
The first (small-scale) works have now started. This week, a mural is being created on the Langeveld Building. Scaffolding has been installed for this purpose. The painting work is expected to continue until the end of this week.
Completion in May/June
Over the coming period, various works will take place to redevelop the square. This includes a ground mural on the square, new and refurbished furniture, new plants and trees, and a new community space for residents. Materials that were previously on the square have already been removed and will be reused where possible. During the works, there may be temporary inconvenience, such as barriers or limited access.
An official opening of the renewed square will follow. More information will be shared at a later stage.
This project is made possible in part by all USP partners: SSH Woonbesturen, UU, HU, Municipality of Utrecht, Stichting USP and VSU. The works are carried out by Triomf and Weverling. The design was created by Urban Synergy in close collaboration with residents and users.
