Interdisciplinary course for Bachelor-3 and Master students
TIC is a course in which Bachelor-3 students, Master students and professionals from diverse backgrounds work together in interdisciplinary teams. Together, the teams develop solutions to authentic social problems proposed by an external partner.
Interdisciplinary and cross-level collaboration
Tackling real-world problems through Interdisciplinary Collaboration (TIC) is an elective course of 7.5 ECT for third-year Bachelor students, Master students and lifelong learners from various disciplines. The course promotes interdisciplinary and cross-level collaboration and solves societal challenges within the four strategic themes of Utrecht University.
The course offers a mix of (guest) lectures, interviews, workshops and discussions. Interdisciplinary groups of 4-5 students and lifelong learners applied their theoretical knowledge to solve real social issues. The program of the course can be found here.
Workshops
The different phases of the course are supported by workshops: from defining to solving the problem. The solution can be a prototype, a video, a symposium, a policy document, etc. Another part of the workshops focuses on (inter)personal and professional development. The goal of the course is to make participants more aware of their own knowledge and skills. At the same time, they are invited to use curiosity, enthusiasm and creativity to come up with innovative ideas that make the world a little better.
Four Challenges
There are four Thematic Interdisciplinary Challenges (TICs), linked to the strategic themes (and a focus area) within the university. This year they are the following themes:
Investing in the future (Pathways to Sustainability)
Migration (Migration and societal change)
Green Teens (Dynamics of Youth)
One Health (Life sciences)
All TICs are interdisciplinary and are open to students and lifelong learners of all backgrounds. When registering, participants may indicate a preference for two TICs. When forming the teams, we strive for mixed groups and take the indicated preferences into account.
