Honours: Still available!

Despite a lot of confusing information you may have heard this year, indeed, honours education is still available to both bachelor’s and master’s students next semester. There are two types of honours programmes you can do:

Faculty-specific Honours:

Next year, unfortunately, marks the last year that most Bachelor degree programmes can take in new students for their faculty-specific honours programmes. Honours programmes at the Master’s level are not affected by this decision. So, if you’ve been wanting to deepen your knowledge and network of your degree, please contact the student desk of your degree programme for further information on your faculty-specific honours programme.

University-wide Honours:

For at least the next two years, Bachelor’s and Master’s students across the university have access to interdisciplinary, extracurricular honours programmes. It is still possible to apply for next year’s iterations of these programmes over the summer!

These programmes act as a meaningful university side-quest, where you meet new people from different bubbles all while going on unexpected learning and self-forming adventures. We don’t look at your grades in our selection, but your motivation and curiosity. Click here for more information.

But I thought they cancelled honours education?

Unfortunately, this year, the university council agreed to remove the obligation for every Bachelor’s degree programme to provide an honours programme specific to their respective degree. This has created a lot of confusion, with many believing honours as a whole has been cancelled. Fortunately, this is not the case!

While most faculties will likely have to cut these specific programmes due to intense budget constraints, some may still offer them; and, all of these faculty-specific programmes still have one more year of intakes. As a separate department, the UU-wide honours programmes are not affected by this decision and will continue as usual.
