First all-gender toilets realised in the city centre
UU is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive environment. To this end, the first all-gender toilets have now been realised at Drift 21 and the University Library City Centre! They are the first of a larger number, to be realised by 1 January. This way, everyone can use our facilities comfortably and safely.
An all-gender toilet is a restroom that can be used by anyone, regardless of their gender. They are identified by the restroom sign with three figures. The first all-gender toilets can now be found in the hall on the ground floor of Drift 21 and in the restroom cluster between sections D and E on the ground floor of Drift 27.
An inclusive and safe university
Inclusiveness is a core UU value: we want everyone to be treated equally and for everyone to feel welcome. An important part of inclusion is social safety. For some staff and students, this means that they prefer to go to a gender-specific toilet, while others do not. People who do not identify as either male or female, or not only as male or female, may not feel comfortable in a gender-specific toilet, thus avoiding university toilets. By expanding the all-gender toilets, we hope to contribute to a more inclusive and safe environment.
How do I know where the nearest all-gender toilet is?
UU is working towards achieving all-gender toilets at all teaching locations in the university city centre (the university quarter and the international campus) by 1 January 2024 wherever possible. On the buildings pages on uu.nl and the buildings pages on students.uu.nl, under the heading ‘Accessibility’, you will find information on whether an all-gender toilet is available in a building.
