Istanbul Up Close
This summer, you can join the Summer School Istanbul Up Close: A Walking Survey of a City's Social and Political History, organised by the Netherlands Institute in Turkey and Turkey Studies Network. Explore the city by foot as you delve into the city’s past hidden underneath it’s well-known areas and landmarks. By doing so, you will learn to understand the dynamics of an ever-changing urban scene of a millennia-old city.
Part 1 of the programme takes place in Leiden (8 June) and consists of a lecture series and compulsory reading. Part 2 takes place in Istanbul (12-23 June) and is based on a series of seven walking days with lectures and discussions. There will also be assignments, literature study and you will write an essay.
You can participate if you have completed the first 2 years of your bachelor's degree. The tuition fee is 200 euros and you have to pay for your own travel, accommodation and health and travel insurance.
Apply no later than 7 May. Mail the application form, a motivation letter and your CV to Dr Aysel Arslan: firstname.lastname@example.org. Do be quick, as there are only 15 spots.
