Dialogue issues situation Gaza and Israel: watch live
How do we deal with issues around collaborations? Are there situations in which you have to stop or freeze all university collaborations with a particular country? How do we ensure that the campus remains safe for all students and staff, whilst debate can take place? And how do we move forward together and where do we find each other, even now we experience differences in views on what the university should do in response to the situation in Gaza and Israel?
On Friday 12 July, students, staff and members of the Executive Board of Utrecht University will have a dialogue on issues our university community is concerned about in response to the situation in Gaza and Israel. The dialogue will be moderated. You can watch along via a livestream.
Why this dialogue?
In recent months, our university has also faced protests in response to the situation in Gaza and Israel. It is of great importance to keep talking to each other, especially when positions differ. This is why students and staff organise lectures, meetings and dialogue sessions, and that also members of the Executive Board have spoken with various students, staff and other people involved. The dialogue on 12 July has the purpose to look back at the past months and to discuss how best to move forward.
How can you watch?
You can attend the dialogue online. From Friday 12 July twelve ‘o clock in the afternoon you will find a link to the livestream here. The conversation will take place from 1 to 2pm and will be conducted in 'listening language'; participants may express themselves in both Dutch and English. Afterwards a written recap will be shared in both languages on the UU channels.
How to enter topics?
During the dialogue, the issues surrounding collaborations, feelings of social (un)safety and the importance of open debate and discussion will be discussed. We want to give the university community the opportunity to submit additional questions, experiences and concerns around these topics. Would you like to contribute something? Please send in your question or message by 7pm on Thursday 11 July so that the moderator can use it for the dialogue.
Would you like to continue the conversation? Or do you need help?
Utrecht University is committed to supporting anyone directly or indirectly affected by these events. We are happy to offer our students and staff support in this regard. If you are a student looking for information, advice or guidance, please see the Who to contact page to find out who you can turn to. Employees who have concerns can seek support from their manager and Staff Welfare Service.
