Demonstration against budget cuts on higher education on Novermber 14 in Utrecht
On Thursday, November 14, 2024, a national day of protest will take place against the government’s substantial cuts (€1 billion) to higher education. We understand that many colleagues and students wish to participate in this protest due to their concerns. This nationwide protest, supported by our university and other Dutch universities, will be held in Utrecht.
The protest day is being organized by advocacy organizations AOb, FNV, WOinActie, CNV, LSVB, and ISO. The programme includes various activities, including a demonstration starting at 1:00 PM from Moreelsepark, ending at Domplein.
From UU, members of the Executive Board and the faculty boards, including members of the LEG board and departmental boards, will participate in the demonstration.
Our university’s employees and students have the right to protest, and many have expressed a desire to join. Given the questions around demonstrating during working and/or class hours, the Executive Board has established guidelines concerning demonstrations and strikes. These guidelines have been discussed within the UNL framework and thus apply to the announced demonstration on November 14 in Utrecht. If you plan to participate in the protest day on November 14, please take a moment to review the guidelines beforehand.
