Apply for the University Council
Would you like to think and decide along on the future of Utrecht University? The University Council is seeking new Student Members for 2026–2027. As a Council Member, you contribute to decisions which concern all students.
What can you expect?
As a Student Member of the University Council (U-Council) you represent the interests of all students at UU. You provide the Executive Board with requested and unrequested advice, and think along on policy for themes such as student well-being, social safety and sustainability.
Important decisions, such as the budget and the student charter, are presented to the U-Council first. Besides this, Council Members can present problems and make suggestions for improvements. Students who preceded you have secured, among other things, higher board grants, more student psychologists and free menstruation products.
What do you get out of it?
A year in the University Council is a year to never forget:
- You get an exclusive look behind the scenes of UU
- You have conversations and negotiations at governance level
- You build up a network
- You enrol in training programmes in negotiating, debating and collaborating
- And, not unimportant, you receive a compensation of 1200 euros per month
How do you register as a candidate?
All students at Utrecht University can register as candidates until 9 April 2026. You do so by joining one of the existing student parties or by submitting a list of candidates yourself. In order to start your own candidate list, you have to go through a number of steps. This is why you should start in time.
