Course registration
All new students commencing a Master's programme will be enrolled for the compulsory courses and the Master’s Thesis. You must enrol for the optional courses of the 3rd period yourself.
As a U.S.E Master's student you can enrol for a maximum of 3 courses per period.
Please note! Only new Master's students are automatically enrolled in all semester 1 courses and all mandatory semester 2 courses. If you are not a first year's Master's student, please email the Graduate School of Economics (graduateschool.use@uu.nl) before 31 August to be enrolled for your courses.
You can enrol for the courses during the enrolment periods via Osiris Student. Please visit the Course Catalogue for content and schedule information.
Please note! Avoid overlap in timeslots. (see the explanation of the timeslot system at U.S.E. below)
Besides your enrolment for the courses, you also enrol for the tutorial groups. Of course you need to follow certain rules (pdf). Ensure that you enrol during the regular enrolment period, because you will only be guaranteed participation in a course if you enrolled on time.
The time slot model
When registering for courses you must select courses from different time slots to prevent having to take lectures, tutorials or exams at the same time. The time slots allow you to make up your own schedule. The picture on the right shows the week's division in different time slots.
How to use time slots when registering for courses?
- In the OSIRIS registration screen you will see in which time slots the course is available (A, B, C, D of E, or a combination of these).
- If a course is indicated by a combination of letters (for instance C/D), then the course is in both slots and you have to make sure that your other courses are in the other slots (so A and/or B).
- Not all the hours of the time slots are used for teaching, so when you choose which seminar group to join, all options will be within said time slot.
- If you register for two courses that are taught in the same timeslot, there may be overlap in teaching and/or exams. So make sure to register for courses that do not overlap.
The exam time slot model
If an exam is scheduled outside the regular course schedule, it can be scheduled according to the exam time slot model. These times are different from the course times.
Schedules
You can find your personal schedules in MyTimetable. The CoursePlanner can help you plan your academic career.
You can register for courses during specific sign-up periods. For the current academic year, these are as follows:
Semester 1 (periods 1 & 2) | 3 June (09:00) – 21 June 2024 (23:59) | New MA students are automatically enrolled for all courses. Not a new MA student? Contact us. |
Semester 2 (periods 3 & 4) | 4 November (09:00) – 22 November 2024 (23:59) | Optional courses: You must enrol yourself. Mandatory courses: New MA students are automatically enrolled. Not a new MA student? Contact us. |
If you have missed the regular registration periods, you can only register for courses during the late enrolment days. Please note that this is a last minute solution: you can only sign up for the courses that have spaces left over so there is no guarantee that you can still follow certain courses at this point. Places are served on a first come first served basis, starting at 09.00 on the first day. Late enrolment will be possible on the following days:
Period 1 2024-2025 | 19 & 20 August 2024 |
Period 2 2024-2025 | 21 & 22 October 2024 |
Period 3 2024-2025 | 20 & 21 January 2025 |
Period 4 2024-2025 | 31 March & 1 April 2025 |
For more information on the available courses, please follow the link on the dates listed above. The links will be active a week before each late enrolment period.
If you decide not to participate in a course, then you must terminate your enrolment. You can do this via Osiris Student until the end of the second week of the period in which the course is taught.
If you do not terminate your enrolment, the remark ‘Did not participate’ will be registered in Osiris.
It is not possible for students to switch between tutorial groups.
The only exception to this is when the study advisor deems it necessary to change a student's schedule due to the student having a chronic illness or a disability, the student playing professional sports, or following a double degree.
If any of these situations applies to you and you would like to request a schedule change, please contact the study advisor within one week of your schedule's publication in OSIRIS.
Students are expected to be available for 40 hours per week when attending U.S.E. full-time. As many students have part-time jobs, it is not possible to make schedule adjustments for work-related reasons.
