Internships

All our Master's programmes do not include space for an internship. However, it is possible to do an internship on top of the regular programme.

Internship on top of regular programme

  • Preferably, students do an internship after completing all compulsory courses and electives. In this case, you request a postponement of graduation from the examination board after completing the thesis programme.
  • Alternatively, you can do a research internship for your thesis or a substantial internship that cannot be taken at any other time. In that case, you must make arrangements with the programme management of the master prior to the internship.

Timeframe and duration

Credits

7.5 EC

Duration

at least 30 working days (or 8x30= 240 hours)
at least 3 days per week (equal to 10 weeks)

Step 1: Find an Internship

  • Find an internship, possibly through the internship vacancies on this site or the student organisation Integrand.
  • Apply for the internship position.
  • Ask a professor, who teaches in the field of your internship, to be your contact person and mentor for the duration of your internship. The internship coordinator can assist you with finding a suitable professor.

Step 2: Approval Internship

  • You’ll be supervised at the internship site by an internship supervisor, (generally) a lawyer.
  • Fill in the consent form for following an internship as a optional course Master.
  • Have the form signed by both your internship supervisor and internship coordinator before starting.
  • You are/were not employed by the institution.

Step 3: Assessment Internship

Turn in your internship portfolio to the internship coordinator no later than three weeks after completion of the internship. Make an appointment with the internship coordinator for a final interview.

  • The internship coordinator will evaluate whether the internship has been fulfilled based on the portfolio (see below) and the final interview.
  • There will be no final grade for the internship, only a ‘Pass’ or ‘Fail’ is registered in Osiris.
  • Only one internship can be submitted.
