Core curriculum (30 EC)

In the first year, you will participate in two Core Seminars (20 EC), in which different philosophical methodologies are integrated to examine a central issue in philosophy in depth. In both years you will also attend a Research Colloquium (10 EC), which provides insight into current philosophical research, scholarship and debates.

Research School Seminars (10 EC)

You will also do Research School Seminars (10 EC). All RMA Philosophy students are members of a Dutch national Research School.

Tutorials (10 EC)

A tutorial is a very flexible course, the topic of which is decided in part by you. Normally about 2-5 students will participate in a tutorial with one or two staff members. Have a look at a list of last year’s tutorials.

Compulsory choice (25 EC)

You must complete at least four Topics Seminars (20 EC). Topics Seminars are courses that focus on specific topics in a certain area of philosophy. The topics alternate every other year. The second part of the compulsory choice is the Interdisciplinary Research Area (5 EC). The objective of the Interdisciplinary Research Area is to confront students with disciplines outside their own area of expertise in order to provide new perspectives to their own research.

Electives (15 EC)

In your elective space, you can do elective MA courses, including an internship, additional Topics Seminars and Interdisciplinary Research Area courses.

Master's thesis

In the second year, you continue to develop your academic skills in a thesis (30 EC).
