Deregister from test and retake

If you are unable to take a test due to illness or circumstances beyond your control, it is important that you deregister on time. On this page, you can find out how to do this. You can also find out in which circumstances you may retake a test or do a resit exam to repair your final mark.

Deregistering from a (partial) test

I wish to deregister from a written test

Are you ill or facing circumstances beyond your control that prevent you from taking a written test? If so, please deregister in advance by following the steps below. 

You cannot deregister from a retake test, regardless of the reason for your absence. You will then have to retake the course in a subsequent academic year.

I want to cancel for another assesment format

If, due to illness or a situation beyond your control (force majeure), you wish to cancel for another form of test, e.g. a paper or a presentation, please contact your Study Advisor during the telephone consultation hours.

Retaking a (partial) test

You are eligible to retake a test if you:

• were unable to take a compulsary partial test (=a test for which a minimum grade is required) or the final test of the course test due to illness or circumstances beyond your control, and you deregistered on time, or
• scored below the compulsory minimum for a compulsory (partial) test (see the course manual for any additional requirements).

Resit exam to repair a final mark

At the end of the course, your final mark will be calculated. If you  have not passed the course, you are entitled to a resit exam to repair your final mark if you:

• have obtained a final mark between 4 and 5.4 for the course as a whole, and
• have fulfilled all effort obligations during the course.

Deregistering from a retake test/resit exam

You cannot deregister from a retake  or resit exam, regardless of the reason for your absence. If you miss the resit, you will not be entitled to another opportunity. You will then have to retake the course in a future academic year.

Extra test opportunity after retake or resit exam

You are eligible for an extra resit exam to improve a failing final mark if you meet the following criteria:

• You were unable to participate in the regular test due to illness or force majeure, and can provide proof of this.
• You cancelled in time for that test.
• You have participated in the retake (as the first test opportunity).
• You obtained a final mark between 4.0 and 5.4 for the course as a whole.
• You have fulfilled all effort obligations during the course.
