Electives

You can choose:

• courses within your major (e.g. from another in-depth package)
• courses outside your major:
  • from the range of optional humanities bachelor courses
  • electives on the subject of (art) history
  • electives on the subject of languages, literature and communication
  • electives on the subject of media and culture
  • electives on the subject of philosophy and religion
  • Lingua receptiva courses (www.luistertaal.nl/en)
  • from the entire range of courses offered by the UU
• courses provided by another educational institution:
  Note that other institutions sometimes have different enrolment and teaching periods. For courses (or a minor) outside the UU, you always have to ask for approval from the Board of Examiners in advance.
• courses that you may need to be admitted to a master's programme
  Be sure to enquire early on about the entrance requirements for the Master’s programme you wish to enter, so that you can fulfil the admission requirements (for example, a certain Minor or individual subjects).

You also might want to consider learning a new language. It gives you access to primary and secondary sources that you did not have access to before. For example, in addition to the common (school) languages: Italian, Spanish, Celtic Languages, Modern or Ancient Greek, Latin, Arabic or Turkish.

You can choose between over a 100 different minors. A minor is a coherent package of 4 courses that belongs to a different field of study than your major. You can choose a minor

• because a certain minor is a good preparation or entrance requirement for the Master's programme you want to apply for (look this up!)
• because you would like to gain more in-depth knowledge in another field of study
• to raise your social or academic profile

How to register for a minor

You register for a minor and the individual modules online via OSIRIS during the Faculty of Humanities course registration period. You must register for both the minor itself and each course module individually. Per minor you can find where to go for more information, what the entry requirements are and how to register.

Courses with selected entry

If you wish to register for a course with selected entry (selection committee), you must register for the minor and the individual course modules during the first week of the course registration period. An overview of courses with selected entry will be available on the website one week prior to the course registration period.

Registration study results

Once you have completed the course modules, provided that you were enrolled for both the minor itself and each course module individually in OSIRIS, the minor and study results will be listed on your Study Progress Review.

Deviation standard programme

If you wish to deviate from the standard minor programme, you must request approval from the Board of Examiners of the Bachelor's programme that offers the minor.
