Study abroad

The Graduate Gender Programme is further involved in various European projects like the prestigious Erasmus Mundus GEMMA joint Master’s degree in Gender and Women’s Studies. The seven partner institutions represent six European countries with different locations and cultures across all Europe: University of Granada (Spain, coordinator), University of Bologna (Italy), Central European University (Hungary), University of Hull (United Kingdom), University of Lodz (Poland), University of Oviedo (Spain) and University of Utrecht (Netherlands). GEMMA offers added value through its geographically balanced consortium which makes it possible for students to choose their international mobility route amongst the participating universities. It also gives students a unique possibility to obtain a double diploma.

The programme is also part of InterGender, Research School in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies which aims at developing a common PhD curriculum in gender studies at European level. It is funded by the Swedish Council with 12 Swedish Universities as members and major European research schools, like the Netherlands Research School for Gender Studies (Utrecht University); Centre for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies (Humboldt University Berlin); Finnish National Doctoral School of Women’s Studies and Gender Studies and the Christina Institute (Helsinki University) and the National Nordic Research School in Gender Studies (Norwegian University of Science and Technology).

In 1991 Utrecht University started with a pilot for a Summer School in Women’s Studies, called NOISE: Network Of Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies in Europe. Since 1994 NOISE has been a successful yearly event giving students and teachers the opportunity to exchange their knowledge in the field of Gender Studies in an international context. From 1994 to 2011 the Summer School was made possible by a grant of the EU Lifelong Learning Programme (Erasmus Intensive Programmes, DG Education & Culture). From 2012 onwards the Summer School runs without EU-funding. Foreign students can get academic recognition at the home university for the work they do abroad

 The programma is also involved in ATGENDER, the European Association for Gender Research, Education and Documentation. ATGENDER (hosted at Utrecht University) is a broad association for academics, practitioners, activists and institutions in the field of Women’s and Gender Studies, Feminist Research, women’s rights, gender equality and diversity in Europe. The association constitutes a permanent structure for the growing field of knowledge and practice in Europe.
