Would you like to contribute to the education and policies of the Faculty of Humanities? Each year, new student representatives are there to represent the students of our faculty. Around spring, you can apply for one of the following positions.
Join your Curriculum Committee
As a member of your Curriculum Committee, you contribute to the quality and improvement of your own BA or MA programme.
As a member of the Curriculum Committee (CC), you will advise the programme on educational matters together with other students and lecturers, assess course evaluations and have a say in the Education and Examination regulations (EER). In this way, you will contribute to the quality and improvement of education.

Positions Faculty of the Humanities
See below for positions for student representatives within the Faculty of Humanities. Please note: for most these positions you need to be sufficient in Dutch.
As a student assessor, you are at the heart of the faculty. You are a member of the faculty board and the link between students, study associations and staff. You represent the voice of students in policy-making and contribute ideas about education and everything that affects students. This position is mainly suitable for students who already have experience in student representation.

As a departmental assessor, you represent students within your department. You are the link between students, programme committees and the departmental board. You advise on education and student interests and participate in various projects.

In the Board Directors of Education, you will participate in discussions about education and educational changes within the faculty. You will meet every six weeks and deal with topics such as educational innovation, generative AI in education and (international) student wellbeing.

Profile
Together with 11 other students, you form the student delegation of the Faculty Council. In this role, you represent all students of the Faculty of Humanities. You do this by providing advice and contributing to decision making on policies developed by the Faculty Board. With committees on education, research, and finance, you will bring the student perspective to discussions and work together with the staff section of the Faculty Council to prepare for the council meetings, which take place five or six times a year. In addition, there is room for you to propose your own initiatives and work with fellow council members to develop and implement them.
For the 2026/2027 academic year, we are for new enthusiastic students who would like to contribute to the faculty. You can apply through one of the existing parties: VUUR or Academisch Belang Utrecht, or you can start your own list.
What are you going to do?
- You will participate in committee meetings with members of the Faculty Board to discuss policy documents and represent the student perspective.
- You meet with the Faculty Board approximately once every six weeks together with the Faculty Council to discuss and ask questions about proposed policies.
- You analyse these policy documents and formulate questions and recommendations.
- You have the opportunity to propose and develop your own initiatives.
- You maintain contact with fellow students to stay informed about issues and developments amongst students in the faculty.
When are you eligible to apply?
- You are enrolled in a Bachelor’s programme or a (Research) Master’s programme at the Faculty of Humanities and will remain enrolled for the entire 2026–2027 academic year.
- You are motivated to representing fellow students and are not afraid to speak up.
- You have good communication skills and enjoy working in a team.
- You are well informed of what is happening among students within the faculty.
Time commitment and compensation
As a student member of the Faculty Council, the position requires approximately 4 hours per week. If you hold one of the three board positions within the student section, the time commitment will be 8 hours per week. In both cases, you will receive a board grant.
Procedure
- 8 April 2026, party lists must be submitted to the election committee. Before this date, you must have registered with an existing list or started your own list. For specific application deadlines of the existing parties, see: VUUR (deadline 13 maart 2026) or Academisch Belang (deadline 20 maart 2026).
- 1 - 3 June 2026, the elections will take place and candidates may be elected for a position in the Faculty Council for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Positions Utrecht University
Looking for an extra challenge? In addition to positions at the Humanities, you also have the opportunity to represent students at university level.
The student assessor advises the university board on educational matters from a student perspective. Recruitment is done via your student email.

Compensation
As a student representative, you will receive compensation. This depends on which position you hold.
As a student actively involved in the participative bodies of the Faculty of Humanities, you will receive compensation for your efforts. This compensation depends on the number of hours prescribed for the various positions. This is described in the letter of appointment (benoemingsbrief) you will receive. The compensation will be paid at the end of the academic year.
Principles
- The UU's official regulations for board grants will be followed.
- The regulation applies to all participatory bodies listed in the Faculty Regulations of the Faculty of Humanities in which students participate.
- The regulation applies only to students appointed by the Dean.
- It is based on a real investment by the student. This investment will be reviewed by the chairs of the appropriate bodies before the payment is made.
Payment
At the end of the academic year, the Faculty will check how every student is enrolled. The dean, department heads and chairs of the faculty council, Board and curriculum committees will also be consulted to assess whether each student has invested sufficient time. The payment will be issued on that basis.
