Specialisations
In the second and third year of your studies, you will take a specialisation of your choice. The programme offers two specialisations. The specialisation each consist of four related courses in which you will study a particular topic in depth. In addition to your specialisation you choose a course that relates to your specialisation. Which course this is, depends on the specialisation you choose. Language contact and language change in Celtic
The specialisation Language contact and language change in Celtic builds on the language acquisition courses in the basic modules (Old Irish and Middle Welsh). You will specialise in language change, language contact, multilingualism, language shift, and language politics, with a particular focus on the Celtic languages of Ireland and Great Britain. You will also choose one of the following accompanying courses: Old Norse (in odd years) or Old English (in even years).
Interpretation and reinterpretation of medieval Celtic texts
In the specialisation Interpretation and reinterpretation of medieval Celtic texts, you will learn the fundamental skills needed to interpret and translate medieval Irish texts. You will also learn how to present them in an engaging and understandable way for a modern audience. You will also take the accompanying course Life, love, and politics in medieval literature.
