Internships

Internship Master's programme Art History

In your second year, you will undertake an internship at a major art museum or research institution for a semester. We have good contacts with many institutions, both in the Netherlands as well as abroad. You can propose an institute yourself.

Together with the programme coordinators, you will search for the ideal internship position for you. During our discussions, we will take into account:

  • what field or area would you would like to explore or specialize in (curating, painting of the Golden Age; Northern Renaissance; 'works on paper' (prints, drawings, photographs); global art history, conservation, contemporary art, collections, 19th century, digital art history etc).
  • It might be useful to align the research you would like to do during your internship with the thesis you will write in the second semester of the second year.
  • Do you feel you need additional knowledge or skills before you start your internship? In that case you may want to choose an elective with a specialist in your field during the first year.

The information on this page under the headline "General HUM Step-by-step plan and forms - (Research) Master's internship" is general information for all Humanities (R)MA students. The Art History Programme Coordinator will provide you with information about internships specifically for Art History students and will organise several information sessions on the internship.

For details of what you need to include in the internship report, please consult the Art History Internship Manual provided by the programme coordinator and the evaluation forms as described below.  Assessment is conducted by the supervising lecturer using a standard assessment form and its appendix:
