Registration

In order to participate in education at Utrecht University, you must register for courses per semester. You will be automatically registered in block 1 and 2; but you must do this yourself for block 3 and 4. You must also re-enrol in your programme each year.

Before you register for a course, check whether you meet the entry requirements. Also be aware of the registration deadlines for other faculties.

Course registration

You register for courses in OSIRIS. You can only do so during a registration period. Every block has a fixed registration period and a few change days on which you can register for courses that still have space available.

Registration periods 2018-2019
Block 1 and 2 (Semester I)

28 May - 24 June 2018

Block 3 and 4 (Semester II)

29 October - 25 November 2018

Change-of-enrolment days

Shortly before the start of each block the so-called change-of-enrolment days take place. These are designated days just prior to the start of every block. From 9 am on these days, you can register for courses that still have places available. Make sure you are on time: many courses have only a limited number of places.

We will publish a list of courses that are still open for registration a week in advance.

Change-of-enrolment days 2018-2019
Block 1

20 and 21 August 2018

Block 2

22 and 23 October 2018

Block 3

21 and 22 January 2019

Block 4

1 and 2 April 2019

Courses with selected entry

Some courses have a limited number of places and therefore the decision has been made to set up selection committees. Selection is based on substantive grounds. A selection committee consists of a lecturer, a student advisor and a student. Generally, only Bachelor courses have selection committees.

Registration period 2018-2019

You can only register for the courses with a selection committee during the first week of the registration period until, at the latest, 16.00 on Monday November 5. After that time, the selection committee will proceed to place the students in courses. The time of registration has no bearing on the placement, so it does not matter at what time you register as long as you register before 16.00 on November 5.

On Thursday November 15 at the latest you will receive a message in your student email telling you whether you have been placed in the course or not. After that time, you have the opportunity to register for another course until midnight on Sunday November 25.

De-registration for courses

If you decide you do not want to take a course after all, you de-register via OSIRIS. This can be done during the change days prior to the block in which the course is given; after that it is no longer possible and an 'ND' (did not attend) will appear in your file.

Schedules

You can find your personal schedules in MyTimetable. The CoursePlanner can help you plan your academic career.

Time slot model

The time slot model

When registering for courses you must select courses from different time slots to prevent having to take lectures, tutorials or exams at the same time. The time slots allow you to make up your own schedule. The picture on the right shows the week's division in different time slots.

How to use time slots when registering for courses?

  • You will find the most recent available courses, registration codes and matching time slots in OSIRIS
  • If a course is indicated by a combination of letters (for instance C/D), then the course is in both slots and you have to make sure that your other courses are in the other slots (so A and/or B). Not all the hours of the time slots are used for teaching.
  • In the OSIRIS registration screen you will see in which time slots the course is available (A, B, C, D of E, or a combination of these).
  • Course registration in identical time slots may lead to overlap in teaching and/or testing. So make sure to register for courses that do not overlap.
Time slot model exams

The exam time slot model

If an exam is scheduled outside the regular course schedule, it can be scheduled according to the exam time slot model. These times are different from the course times.

Terminating your degree programme enrolment

If you want to terminate your enrolment in the degree programme, you need to submit a 'Request for de-enrolment' in Studielink (under 'My degree programmes' > select the degree programme for which you want to terminate your enrolment > 'Request for de-enrolment'). Studielink will subsequently send you a confirmation. Before you do this, it is helpful to carefully read exactly what you need to take into account.

Re-enrolling in your degree programme

You must re-enrol in your degree programme in Studielink every year. You can do so from 1 June until at the latest 31 August. You need a DigiD in order to submit your request to re-enrol. Make sure that your email address in Studielink is always up-to-date: decisions about your enrolment are sent to that email address.

You have until the start of the new academic year (31 August at the latest) to terminate your enrolment.
