Year 1 | Core courses

In the first year, you will take four compulsory courses (20EC) and two compulsory choice courses (10EC). You also choose at least two courses (10EC) at a National Research School. In year 1, you take the compulsory Reading and Interpreting Sources courses (10EC). With questions about the different language options for these courses, please contact Aaron Griffith, via A.Griffith@uu.nl

Year 1 | Research seminars

In the first year you take two research seminars (10EC) within the specialisation you have chosen.

Year 2 | Electives and Master's thesis

In the first semester of your second year, you choose electives, here or elsewhere in the Netherlands. If you want to pursue a career outside of academia, you can choose to do a research internship. The aim of this semester is to invest in knowledge and skills specifically for your personal research interests, in preparation of writing your thesis during the second semester.
