The Research Master's Programme in Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies lasts for two years and has a 120 EC study load. A year is divided into two semesters, running from September till January and from February till June. A semester is divided into two blocks. Normally you will take three courses (of 5 EC each) per block.
An overview of courses per track is available here.
Year 1
In the first year, all students take four core courses, four research seminars specific for their chosen track, two language courses and two electives of the National Research Schools.
Should you have any questions about the different language courses on offer, please contact our coordinator for the Language Requirement, dr. Aaron Griffith (A.Griffith@uu.nl).
Year 2
In the first semester of the second year you create your own study programme (30 EC) by taking courses or tutorials on offer in other AMRS tracks, in other MA Programmes at Utrecht University, a university elsewhere in the Netherlands, or abroad. You may also opt for one of the general electives on offer in the RMA AMRS. Please note that you need approval in advance from the Examination Committee for any elective courses you choose. The aim of this semester is to invest in knowledge and skills specifically for your personal research interests, in preparation of writing your RMA Thesis during the second semester.
In the second semester you work on your Thesis (30 EC) and participate in a Thesis Lab designed to support your research and writing proces.
