Social safety

Do you experience inappropriate behaviour during your study or internship? It is important that you discuss this with someone you can trust. Inappropriate behaviour includes all facets of behaviour and communication that are perceived as offensive and result in an unsafe environment in education, during internships or in private life.

Examples of offensive behavior or communication are (sexual) harassment, aggression, violence, bullying, or discrimination.

This is us

Did you know that UMC Utrecht has a program for social safety called ‘This is us’? On the This is us website you will find practical information that can help you if you have experienced something (inappropriate). Whether you experience inappropriate behaviour yourself, someone approaches you with a problem, or you are addressed about your behaviour.

What can you do about inappropriate behaviour?

Understanding your own boundaries—and respecting those of others—is key to creating a safe and supportive learning environment. At GSLS, we believe open, respectful communication helps everyone thrive, but talking about sensitive topics like consent can be challenging.

The “Consent Matters: Boundaries, Respect and Positive Intervention” e-module gives you practical tools to recognise, discuss, and protect boundaries—your own and others'. You will learn what consent truly means and how to contribute to a respectful academic community.

Both Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht have created a code of conduct. In these documents, the core values of our education and guidelines are embedded.
