Project Supervision
Different supervisory roles exist depending on where you conduct your Research Project/Writing Assignment. You must find an examiner within UU or UMC Utrecht for all projects (this cannot be a postdoc or PhD candidate).
Project within UU or UMC Utrecht
The examiner holds final responsibility for your project and the overall grading. Daily supervision is provided by the examiner or one or more experts in the field. If your daily supervisor is relatively junior (e.g., a PhD candidate or postdoc), a senior scientist (such as their supervisor) must offer support. The second reviewer, who is not directly involved in the project, will assess your research report and final presentation.
Projects outside UU and UMC Utrecht
The examiner remains responsible for your project and the final grading. Daily supervision can be provided by the host institute supervisor (a senior scientist) or by a PhD candidate or postdoc, with support from the host institute supervisor. In this case, both the examiner and the host institute supervisor will grade all components, so a second reviewer is not necessary.
Students may encounter challenges or issues with their supervisor, examiner, or second reviewer during their Research Project/Writing Assignment. If you face any difficulties in these relationships or require guidance on how to navigate such situations, please visit Problems within project for support and resources.
