Problems within project

Sometimes, things do not go as planned. Your project or research group might not meet your expectations, the environment may feel uncomfortable, or communication with your supervisor could be challenging. You might feel unmotivated or unsure about how to move forward.

Do not wait too long to seek help—you are not alone. Support is available to prevent study delays and help you find a solution.

Possible problems

Start by reaching out to your programme coordinator or study advisor. The research project coordinator can also provide an unbiased perspective on your options. For additional support, visit advice and counselling page, where you will find contact details for coaches, confidential advisors, and more.

Not sure where to start? Any of the contacts above can guide you or point you in the right direction. The most important step is to reach out. All conversations are confidential, and no action will be taken without your permission.

If consulting the programme coordinator or study advisor does not resolve the issue, discuss the next steps with your study advisor. These may include:

  • Contacting a complaints coordinator if the dispute is personal.
  • As a last resort, appealing to the Examinations Appeals Board (College voor het Beroep van de Examens, CBE) if you disagree with a decision made by the Board of Examiners or an examiner.

Changes in the project

In case of changes in the topic of the project, project credits, examiner, second reviewer/supervisor host institute or daily supervisor you should fill in the request for changes form (download and open in Adobe Reader) and email it to the administration office Biosciences or Biomedical Sciences.
