Da Vinci

Step up as a changemaker and drive innovative, sustainable solutions. Push beyond your comfort zone and tackle real-world challenges in this interdisciplinary profile. In the Da Vinci programme (pilot), you will work at the premises of a company to tackle a challenge related to the energy, material, and feedstock transition. Together with peers from different disciplines and universities, you will find a solution to a multi-faceted case.

Expect to spend several days a week working on-site with stakeholders, while also receiving training and coaching to strengthen your skills and broaden your perspective. If you’re ready to challenge yourself in a collaborative, high-impact setting — the Da Vinci Programme is for you.

The initiative is led by Prof. Bert Weckhuysen (UU), in collaboration with Prof. Emiel Hensen (TU/e) and Prof. Harry Bitter (WUR).

Practical information

Profile or Elective?

There are two different tracks to choose from. If you want to follow the Da Vinci programme as a profile (30EC, longtrack -> SK-MDAVI), you must select a 3EC course on top of the 30EC profile.

If you are not interested in choosing the Da Vinci programme as full profile, there is now also the opportunity to choose the short track of 15EC (Short track -> SK-MDAVIS), as part of your electives.

For whom?

The programme is open to Master's students from all disciplines within the EWUU alliance (TU/e, WUR,  UU, UMC-U).

When does it start?

The Da Vinci profile is a pilot and starts in February 2026.

Application for the profile

Long track 30 EC - SK-MDAVI
Short track 15 EC - SK-MDAVIS

Consult your programme coordinator about applying for the Da Vinci programme. Think about a 3 EC course that you want to follow on top of the 30 EC Da vinci profile. This course should have an examination/assessment, be on Master’s level and is a GSLS course. The course is flexible, but the programme coordinator needs to approve of the course.

After the Programme coordinator and you agreed on the course, you have to send an email to the BoE including motivation for the Da Vinci and the name, course code of the 3 EC course. In this email you put the programme coordinator in the cc, so they can also formally approve of your request by email to the BoE.

Board of Examiners GSLS – Science BoardofExaminersGSLS@uu.nl
BoardofExaminersGSLS-BMS BoardofExaminersGSLS@umcutrecht.nl

After approval of both BoE and your programme coordinator, you can go to Osiris to enroll to the programme SK-MDAVI (30 EC). Together with the 3EC course, it will count as ‘profile ‘ component of the GSLS (33EC).
