Communication

Communicating science effectively has never been more important as today. As a researcher, you need to engage with society, explain your findings with diverse audiences, and spark dialogue with the public. If you are eager to go beyond the lab and learn how to communicate complex topics clearly, enter into meaningful converstations, or teach in informal settings such as museums, the Communication profile (33 EC) offers the perfect opportunity.

This profile, available for most GSLS Master’s students, focuses on science communication and informal science education. Over the course of six months—slightly longer than a full semester—you will build skills to make scientific knowledge clear, accessible and engaging for a wide range of audiences. You will learn how to truly connect and talk with people by understanding how they think, feel and behave—an essential foundation for designing impactful communication and educational materials. Key focus areas include capturing interest, motivating engagement and supporting learning—key tools for bridging the gap between science and society.

Compulsory courses

The two compulsory courses give you hands-on experience in product development during an internship while building your skills in science communication and public engagement. You will learn techniques for clear communication, strategies to engage diverse audiences, and practical ways to collaborate with scientists and the public.

In addition to these courses, you must select one 5 EC elective course and one 3 EC course from the available elective options.
