As an SBM student, you are developing a unique combination of scientific expertise and business acumen — preparing yourself for a future in science-driven companies and organisations. The programme is designed to equip you with the skills to manage and market knowledge-intensive products while maintaining a solid grasp of the scientific foundations behind them.
Year 1
Begin your journey with the Life Sciences Academy (1.5 EC) by participating in the compulsory Introducing Life Sciences (ILS) week. Your first year focuses on scientific research within your area of expertise through a Major Research Project of either 51 EC or 42 EC.
- If you opt for the 51 EC Major Research Project, you will also take the following courses:
- Introduction to Science-Based Companies (1.5 EC)
- Orientation on Presentation and Career (2 EC)
- One theoretical course (4 EC)
- If you choose the 42 EC Major Research Project, you will follow:
- Theoretical courses totaling 10 EC
- An elective course (3 EC)
Compulsory components
Year 2
The second year begins with an intensive half-year of coursework focused on business-related topics (FBE), also known as the Management profile (33 EC). Following this, you will undertake a Business Internship (27 EC) of at least five months at a company or organisation outside university. The internship must be business-oriented and preferably have a connection to science.
