Cardiovascular Health and Disease

The Cardiovascular Health and Disease programme places you at the cutting edge of cardiovascular research, from basic science to clinical applications. You can explore fundamental, translational, and (pre-)clinical research within the cardiovascular domain. This Master’s programme actively addresses key societal and scientific challenges and themes, including diversity, health equity, scientific integrity, public engagement, animal-free innovation, prevention, and patient involvement in cardiovascular research.

Year 1

Start your journey with the Life Sciences Academy (1.5 EC), where you build a solid foundation for your studies. Subsequently, the Compulsory courses (15 EC, see overview below) will strengthen your theoretical knowledge across multiple domains within cardiovascular research. You will start your Major Research Project (51 EC) to gain hands-on research experience. You can choose to take Elective components (15 EC) in the first year or complete these in the second year.

The compulsory course Shaping the Cardiovascular Professional takes place monthly throughout the first year. Through workshops and thematic sessions, you will engage with the community of your programme, build communication and collaboration skills, and explore stakeholders within and beyond academia. The course also addresses key scientific principles like integrity, open science, stakeholder involvement, and valorisation.

Year 2

The second year emphasises on specialisation and the practical application of your knowledge. You follow one of the nine Profiles (30 EC), complete the Elective components (15 EC) and finalise your Major Research Project (if not already completed). You also write the Writing Assignment (7.5 EC) on a cardiovascular topic.  The order of these components is flexible and can be determined based on your individual choices within the programme.
