Graduate step-by-step
To ensure a smooth process, it’s important to complete all required steps and submit the necessary documents on time. Follow this guide to successfully wrap up your Master’s programme and receive your diploma.
| Step 1 | Deadlines | Check the deadlines for graduation. Note that there are two separate deadlines: one for your graduation application and another for the graduation ceremony. |
|---|---|
| Step 2 | Graduation application | You can only graduate once your application is complete—all grades must be in Osiris and your graduation application form submitted to the administration office. Submit the form no later than the 15th of the month. Delaying your graduation request will cost you an extra month of tuition fees. |
| Step 3 | Graduation application form | Fill out the Graduation Application Form (download and open in Adobe Reader) to apply for graduation. You can also use this form to register for a graduation ceremony.* |
| Step 4 | Invite | Invite your supervisor, examiner, or teacher to give a laudatio for you during the ceremony. |
| Step 5 | Signed form | Sign the form yourself, and if applicable (unless you are following the general research profile) have your Profile Coordinator sign the form. Finally have your Programme Coordinator sign the form. |
| Step 6 | Send form | Email the graduation application form to the administration office before the 15th of the month.** |
| Step 7 | Assessment Board of Examiners | The Board of Examiners will assess whether you meet the graduation requirements outlined in paragraph 6 of the Education and Examination Regulations. |
| Step 8 | Update | The administration office will email you the Board’s decision within 10 working days after the graduation application deadline (the 15th of the month). If the decision is positive, the email will also confirm your official graduation date. |
| Step 9 | Terminate your enrolment | After your graduation is approved, you must actively terminate your enrolment at Utrecht University before the 1st of the month following your graduation application. |
| Step 10 | Confirmation | You will be informed whether you have secured a place at the graduation ceremony within 10 working days after the application deadline. You will receive an invitation with more details—be sure to forward this invitation to your speaker, as it includes information about the laudation. |
* Each ceremony has limited capacity, so you may not get your preferred date. We advise you to wait for confirmation of your ceremony date before making any firm plans (flights, hotels, etc.)—see point 8.
** Master's students that follow the Epidemiology programme hand in their graduation form at the Epidemiology administrative office at least five working days before the 15th of the month.
