Mini Project
As part of your elective component, you have the option to complete a mini project. Mini projects offer a flexible and practical way to personalise your master’s programme while enhancing your academic and professional development. This is a great way to gain hands-on experience, explore a specific topic, or develop new skills beyond standard coursework.
A mini project can take many forms, varying in size (0.5–12 EC), content, and final output, such as a report, presentation, poster, advice, or script.
Please note: content and deliverables must be agreed upon with your examiner. Your programme coordinator and the Board of Examiners must approve the mini project.
Application
| Step 1 | Your application should include a short description of the project, its deliverables, final output, assessment method, and any agreements made with your examiner. Be sure to include the start and end date of the mini project. |
|---|---|
| Step 2 | Please submit your application through Osiris Case. |
| Step 3 | Your examiner must be affiliated with UU/UMC Utrecht and cannot be a PhD student or postdoc. They need to approve your project in Osiris Case before you can begin. |
Application procedure and approval
Your mini project will be evaluated by your examiner, the programme coordinator and the Board of Examiners (BoE). Submit your application via Osiris Case, accessible via Osiris Student, at least 20 working days before the project starts. Once approved, you will receive a confirmation email and then you can start your mini project.
Do you have more questions? Please go to the FAQ and student manual for more details. For feedback or issues with Osiris, email ResearchProjectCoordinator@umcutrecht.nl, including your case number or project type.
Mini Project outside UU/UMC Utrecht
If your mini project takes place outside UU/UMC Utrecht, your supervisor at the host institute must also approve it in Osiris Case.
For external mini projects at non-university institutes or abroad, a signed internship contract is required. You can download the contract (open in Adobe Reader) and upload it in Osiris Case.
Assessment
Your examiner will carry out the assessment, and while a second reviewer can be involved, it’s not required. Your mini project will be assessed using at least two methods:
- A report (with type, size, and content determined by your examiner)
- Another method, such as practical work, research skills, group work, or a presentation
For smaller mini projects, the Board of Examiners may decide that only one assessment method is necessary.
Your examiner is responsible for completing the final assessment form in Osiris Case (see the Osiris Case instructions for examiners for more details). The final grade must be justified, ideally using the GSLS rubrics, or by providing a written motivation uploaded in Osiris Case.
All written end products must be checked for plagiarism using Ouriginal.
