Business Internship
The Business Internship at the GSLS allows Science and Business Management students to gain practical experience in a non-academic environment. The internship consists of two components, more information on this can be found below.

Company work
Active participation is central to the programme. You will work on real-world business projects, where you contribute to developing marketing strategies, improving internal processes and translating innovations into viable business applications. Through close collaboration with clients and stakeholders, you gain hands-on experience in analysing challenges, proposing solutions and delivering professional outcomes in a dynamic, practice-oriented setting.
Business thesis
You will produce an advisory report grounded in applied business research. Drawing on data, analysis and stakeholder input, you translate your findings into clear, actionable recommendations that support informed decision-making within the host organisation.
In some cases, these two components overlap, for example when the company work itself involves business research. More often, they complement each other, with the company work forming the practical foundation for the thesis. In this situation, the workload typically consists of approximately 70% company work and 30% business thesis.
End product
Business report
The academic thesis or business report should be 40 to 65 pages long and include a plain language summary as well as a personal experience report. You must write the report in English. If a company or government organisation explicitly requires a report in Dutch, you may request an exception. In that case, you must include an English summary. You may submit no more than one Dutch report during your Master’s degree programme.
Plain language summary
The plain language summary (or layman summary) should be approximately 500 words and written for an audience that understands Biology or Science at a high school level.
Final presentation
The final presentation takes place within the business environment where the internship was conducted. The examiner may attend the presentation at the host institute.
