Electives

All Masters Programmes of the GSLS (excluding SBM and Epidemiology Postgraduate) have space for 12EC of electives. There are multiple options to fulfill these electives. One of those options is to fill the elective component with Master degree courses. Depending on the type of course, the following approval is needed:

  1. If a student wants to follow a course that is offered by the Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS), no permission is needed. GSLS courses are by default good choices to fill your elective component.
  2. For face-to-face Master's courses offered outside the GSLS (both UU and non-UU) prior approval of the program coordinator is needed. Please provide your programme coordinator with all the information needed to assess the suitability of the course. This information has to include the level of the course (only Master level courses are allowed), length and intensity (hours/day), supervision/guidance, books to be studied, examination procedures, and any other relevant material.

Expensive courses

The courses Laboratory Animal Sciences and Radiation Safety are expensive courses. You should have written approval from your programme coordinator if you want to take one of these courses. A copy of the arrangement has to be sent to the Master’s administration office for administrative purposes.

If you take one of these courses you cannot automatically follow the other, but in exceptional cases more than one course may be allowed.
