Courses
You take 15 EC per period from different timeslots. You have to register for courses yourself.
Part-time programme
The programme offers the option to be studied part-time. Note that given the size of the courses, this does not exactly result in an even 50% study load, but we try to approach this the best we can.
- In period 1 of the first year, you always take Urban Futures and the Advanced Urban/Economic Geography course (depending on your specialization). In the second year, you take the Advanced Methods & Techniques course in period 1.
- In period 2, you have a choice, since full-time students take three courses in that period: you take two of these in the first year, and the other one in your second year. Perhaps it is logical to take the ones that align with your research interests and possible thesis first, but you are free to choose.
- As for the thesis, in p3 of the first year you start on the research plan for your Master's thesis, followed by the theoretical part of the thesis writing. In period 3 and 4 of the second year, you conduct your empirical research in order to finish your thesis at the end of the second year.
- Period 3 also features the international field trip. You can choose whether you take this in the first year (i.e., with the cohort of students with whom you started) or in the second (so that it rounds off your MA). The Methods & Techniques Specialization course in p3 is always taken in the second year.
Finally, there are Professional Competences modules throughout the year. You have to take at least two of these, which can be anywhere across the two years.
