Geosciences Honours College

You will take at least four courses (30 EC) at honours level in the regular Bachelor's programme. This means that the form these courses take differs (at least in part) from the standard level. Your lecturer determines how they differ (for example, an honours seminar, alternative honours assignment, etc.), or you set it down yourself in consultation with the lecturer in an honours subject contract. These teaching-specific components serve to substitute regular components in the (compulsory / optional) major or optional course profile of your study programme.

You will replace two optional course profile courses of your Bachelor’s programme with two special honours profile courses (15 EC in total). You can choose the following options:

• GEO3-5005H Creative Challenge Project (7,5 EC)
• GEO3-5009H Tailor Made Course (7,5 EC)
• GEO3-5007H Undergraduate Honours Research Project (7,5 EC)
• A course from the Descartes College (7,5 EC)

For this compulsory part of the programme, you receive 15 EC in addition to those for your Bachelor’s programme. Its content covers the range of geosciences and consists of: 

• GEO3-5001H GHC Seminar (15 EC)
• International Honours Conference (0 EC)

The honours thesis is an extensive and modified version of the Bachelor’s thesis. It substitutes the Bachelor’s thesis if this is 15 EC. If the Bachelor's thesis is 7,5 EC, it not only substitutes this, but also 7,5 EC of the relevant major option.

• GEO3-2422H Honours thesis Global Sustainability Science (15 EC)
• GEO3-2275H Honours thesis Natuurwetenschap en Innovatiemanagement (15 EC)
• GEO3-3034H Honours thesis Sociale Geografie en Planologie (15 EC)

You gain experience of being abroad by taking part in at least one honours study trip abroad. In certain situations, you can substitute this with an alternative form of experience abroad that has the same objectives.
