Portfolio
For graduation in one of the Earth Sciences master programmes, each student must attend at least 10 scientific presentations / symposia / seminars offered by the Departments of Earth Sciences and Physical Geography, and their research groups. Moreover, students must give a poster presentation of their own MSc Research project during one of the dedicated poster sessions of Earth Sciences Utrecht. A portfolio should be compiled, which consists of short, written reports of about at least 10 talks as well as an A4 copy of the presented poster, a short summary of the peer-feedback received on the poster (see below), and a short reflection on this feedback.
Eligible presentations for inclusion in the portfolio are MSc-thesis talks/colloquia, FEST (Friday Earth Science talks), lunch lectures, and other occasional talks or seminars. Apart from talks offered by the Departments of Earth Sciences and Physical Geography, part of the portfolio may consist of reports of talks given elsewhere, such as presentations given at other UU research groups (for example, IMAU-colloquia), public lectures (inauguration or farewell speeches, Studium Generale), national and international symposia, seminars or conference sessions, as long as there is a clear and relevant link to Earth Sciences. Reports of business presentations and workshops, and lectures as part of a course do not count towards the portfolio.
During each academic year, four poster sessions will be organised by the team of programme leaders. These sessions will be held on an afternoon and will be followed by drinks. Students who have started their MSc thesis project will be asked to display and present their poster during a poster session. Furthermore, all poster presenters will be asked to peer review three other posters.
Students develop a portfolio of the reports of each (i.e. at least 10) attended presentation and a report on the peer-feedback on your poster. After finalising the portfolio, it should be submitted via Blackboard. After evaluation, the portfolio will be marked as “passed” in OSIRIS.
For further information and instructions, see the Earth Sciences Talks community on Blackboard.
