Year 1

  • Systems Analysis: In the first year you take five compulsory courses (37,5 EC). In the third period you choose one elective course (7,5 EC). In the fourth period you do a research project (15 EC).
  • Natural Science: In the first year you take five compulsory courses (37,5 EC). In the third period you can take one elective course (7,5 EC). In the fourth period you may start with the research project (30 EC) and complete this in year two. You can also take (an) elective course(s) in period four.

Year 2

  • Systems Analysis: In year two you can choose to do an internship (15 EC or 22,5 EC) and one or two elective courses (7,5 EC or 15 EC), ór you take four elective courses (30 EC).
  • Natural Science: In year two you may start (or finish) the research project (30 EC). If you have not yet taken the required elective course(s), you can take these in year two.

You will also write your Master's thesis (30 or 45 EC) in the second year.

Approval electives

If you want to take an elective course from the list under Recommended electives this course is automatically processed in Osiris as an elective course. If you want to follow another elective that is not on the list (e.g. at another Faculty of the UU, another University in the Netherlands of abroad) you need to ask permission by the programme leader BEFORE the course starts. In this case, please send the elective application form to the Board of Examiners (boardofexaminers.geo@uu.nl) to get your electives approved. You can either ask the Programme Coordinator to sign the application form before sending it, or forward an email containing the approval to the Board of Examiners.
