Arranging  your internship is a thing you have to do yourself, but your thesis supervisor can help you find one. Also talk to students who have already done an intership or contact other lecturers active in the direction of your interest. Or check this list with projects that are available at this moment on BlackBoard, Master Earth Sciences Internship. And check the site of U.A.V.

You could also check the Career Services Internship Listings to see if any of the internships interest you. Companies and organisations looking for interns from the university's various academic programmes often post their vacancies with us.

These internships are not available as part of your curriculum and do not contribute to the requirements of your academic programme, but they are great opportunities to gain work experience and expand your network.

Your internship needs to meet certain conditions:

• Is it of academic level? You are assigned a task for which you will need the knowledge and capabilities that you’ve acquired in the past years.
• Is there a clearly identifiable ‘deliverable’, something your Utrecht University supervisor can evaluate? Often this concerns a report or a publication but it may also consist of, for exampe, a piece of software.
• Will you receive sufficient supervision during your internship?
• The duration is between three and six months. Longer is possible but you cannot ask for more than 30 credits (1 credit equals 28 h of work).
• A complete internship proposal is available before the start of the internship (see below).

If you go abroad for your internship/thesis it is mandatory to apply for it in Osiris.

• Go to Osiris Student
• Click on the ‘Stay Abroad’ tab*.
• Click on ‘New request’ (bottom left).
• Select the correct application request: 'Stay abroad other'.
• Fill out the form and upload a copy of the email confirming the registration and approval of your Internship project (i.e. the email sent by the secretary of the teaching institute Earth Sciences (Anila Peri or Ingrid Beekman) in the name of the course coordinator).
• Click on ‘Submit’.

*A new window will open in the old OSIRIS student lay-out. In this window, please click on 'stay abroad' again. You may have to log in again in case your session has expired.

Please note that you should never accept an internship without prior approval. To get approval, please complete the Internship approval form and write a short project proposal (see Internship guideline). The approval form must then be signed by you and your supervisor.

Next, please fill out the online registration form and upload the signed agreement form (including the proposal) as attachment.

When your internship is finished your external and University supervisor will assess it, by use of the assesment form. You’ll find this form on on BlackBoard, Master Earth Sciences Internship.
