Core courses

During this Master’s programme you will learn to understand and apply different theories and concepts about youth development, and translate this knowledge into practice. You will learn to apply interdisciplinary and academic skills with increasing independence and in co-creation with stakeholders from the field. You will be supported in this by teachers from various disciplines who work in the youth sector.

Interdisciplinary skills learning

Throughout the year, the focus is on learning and applying interdisciplinary skills. You will be supported in this by a mentor (who is also your university internship supervisor), with whom you will meet three times during the year for one-to-one sessions. During these sessions, you and your mentor will reflect on your learning objectives and experiences throughout the courses in order to achieve these objectives.

Deep-dive courses

In three “Deep dive” courses, you will gain hands-on skills in systematic reviews, qualitative research, and quantitative research. Each course includes a full-time week (5 days) of mandatory attendance with lectures, small-group discussions, and assignments, during which you will work intensively on a particular method.

Master's project

The Master's project consists of an internship and a Master’s thesis. You will write your thesis on a topic of choice (we offer multiple topics and use different data sets to explore research questions) either using a qualitative or quantitative design. The other half of the week you will spend your time on your internship. We have many connections with stakeholders and organizations that offer great positions.
