Thesis
The thesis is part of the Master's project in the second semester (period 3 and 4), which consists of three interrelated components. You do an internship, write your thesis and make an additional public-engagement end product, all focused on a social challenge.
Research
The research you do for your Master's thesis can either be an analysis of existing data (e.g. existing quantitative or qualitative data, literature (e.g. scoping review), policy documents (document analysis), or be based on new data you collect as part of your research-focused internship. Finally, you translate the results of your Master's thesis research into a public-engagement product for a wider audience.
Set-up
During the writing of your thesis, you work largely independently, with guidance from a supervisor. Supervision will take place in small tutorial groups and/or individually, and will include the exchange of peer feedback. Your research will need to have an interdisciplinary social science focus and draw on a combination of behavioural and social science concepts.
Topics
Most students write a Master's thesis on a topic related to their internship, but for some these are not related.
Ethical review of your thesis
All Bachelor's and Master's students must have their thesis project ethically reviewed by the FERB through the online tool UU-SER. More information about the procedure and associated protocols can be found on this website: https://uu-ser.sites.uu.nl/procedure-submitting-uu-ser.
Submitting your thesis
As soon as you have successfully completed your thesis, you will receive an invitation from your programme to start up your case in Osiris Case.
