Rounding of final grades

It is important to know the regulations for assessment at Utrecht University. Utrecht University awards grades on a 10-point scale: 1 is the lowest grade and 10 is the highest grade. On this page you can find more information about the rounding of grades.

Grading procedure

  • A 5 (or lower) counts as fail; a 6 (or higher) as pass.
  • You must pass all courses to graduate.
  • Only passing grades will be shown on the International Diploma Supplement.
  • If you have an insufficient final assessment for a course, but have achieved at least a 4? Then you have a one-time opportunity to still pass the course via an additional test, provided that you have met all the effort obligations during the course.
  • If you have a passing grade, you are not eligible for an additional or extra test.
