Ethnographic Fieldwork and Thesis

On the basis of an accepted research proposal, the second semester of the programme compromises the ethnographic fieldwork and data collection phase (approximately twelve weeks). After you have completed your fieldwork, you will write your M.Sc. thesis.

Ethnographic Fieldwork

During the fieldwork phase (approximately twelve weeks), you have regular contact with your supervisor, wherein you discuss your fieldwork reports, the progression of your data collection and research experiences.

Thesis

After you have completed your fieldwork, you will write your anthropological thesis. This thesis is a synthesis of your empirically collected data during fieldwork and the theoretical underpinning of your research project. Your supervisor will advise you in the writing of this thesis.

Ethical review

The research projects of all students must be approved by the Faculty Ethics Review Board (FERB) through the online tool UU-SER. More information about the procedure and associated protocols can be found on the Student Ethics Review & Registration Site (UU-SER) website.

Submitting your thesis

As soon as you have successfully completed your thesis, you will receive an invitation from your programme to upload your thesis to Osiris. If you have any questions about the archiving of your thesis, please contact the educational support office (ca@uu.nl).
