Academics

The Research Master's programme Migration, Ethnic Relations and Multiculturalism (MERM) allows you to develop a critical and interdisciplinary understanding of debated issues involved in questions about migration, inclusion and cultural diversity and to address these questions as a social scientific researcher.

The programme focuses on the quantitative analysis of different processes and aspects of migration flows, the (social, cultural and psychological) participation of ethnic minorities in different societies, and the reactions of exclusion and inclusion of host societies and majority group members.

You will study migration processes, the various ways in how migrants find their way in a new society and the ethnic and religious diversity of nation states and local contexts (e.g., schools and neighbourhoods), with special emphasis on ethnic conflicts and segregation in multicultural societies.

You will learn how to understand these phenomena, and how to conduct your own independent social scientific research on related topics.
