Topic

Do you enjoy reading or writing? Would you like to work in the publishing world, or dream of becoming a (published!) writer? Are you curious about the steps you need to take to build a network and develop yourself as a professional in the literary field? Do you love writing and want to further develop your skills? Or are you simply very interested in books and writing, and wondering what different jobs are available in the 'book world' and whether you can make a living from it? Then come to our event and get inspired by alumni from the Humanities who work in the book and writing world!

Speakers

If anyone truly belongs in the world of books, it’s Soraya Vink: she contributed to a Spanish teaching textbook, was a juror for the Gouden Strop award at the CPNB (Collective Propaganda of the Dutch Book), worked as an editor for the website Hebban.nl (the readers’ community of the Netherlands and Flanders), wrote a thriller Persona with Harper Collins Holland, and now works as a senior acquisitions editor at the same publishing house. All of this after completing her BA in Spanish Language and Culture and her MA in Spanish Language and Culture: Education and Communication at Utrecht University.

Yvonne Zeegers is an alumnus of the MA Gender Studies at Utrecht University (UU). Prior to that, she completed a Bachelor's degree in History at the University of Groningen, where she also took minors in Journalism and Philosophy. Currently, Yvonne works as a creative writing lecturer at ArtEZ University of the Arts. In addition, she works as a dramaturg and writes for theatre and literary and interdisciplinary performances. She knows better than anyone what it’s like to write for something other than a book!

In 2020, Anneke Voerman graduated in from the MA Translation at UU after completing her BA in Dutch Language and Culture at VU. She now works as a desk editor at Zomer & Keuning Publishing and as a Producer at VKB Media (a publishing group). She has not only experience in the publishing world but also worked as a bookseller for Bilthovense Bookstore.

Klaske Schep is a freelance copywriter for her own company, De Levensbrouwerij. She writes life stories (biographies) about the most interesting people and organisations. In 2015, she completed her BA in History at UU. For her work, she combines her historical knowledge with her passion for writing. In addition to her work for De Levensbrouwerij, she also wrote her debut novel Singleton op zijn stilst, which was published in 2020.
