Translational Life Sciences career event
Are you curious about what Translational Life Sciences is and how you can apply this in your research or in business? Join the Translational Life Sciences Career Event on Wednesday the 14th of June!
Very likely you have heard about Translational Life Sciences, but do you know what it exactly means? During this career event you will find out! Also, you will discover what the career options are within this field.
Several speakers will talk about their experiences in Translational Life Sciences. The speakers have different backgrounds in either academia or in business, which will make it highly diverse. Furthermore, you can attend a workshop of choice. Join the workshop about solving translational problems or learn how to involve patients in research. Afterwards, you have the possibility to talk to the speakers individually during the borrel (with bitterballen!).
This Career Event is organized by students of the Translational Life Sciences Profile. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send an email to Thijs Koninkx.
Don’t miss out on this event with very interesting speakers and workshops and sign up now!
Only a limited amount of spots are available! Please register in time, the registration closes on the 7th of June.

Talk from Berent Prakken
Prof. dr. Berent Prakken is vice-dean and director of the biomedical education centre at the UMC Utrecht. He is also a professor of pediatric immunology at the UMC Utrecht. He heads a translational research lab focusing on the regulation of inflammation and biomarker development in human inflammatory diseases. His personal commitment is to collaboration and training & education. Unconventional thinking and crossing traditional boundaries inspired him and his co-founders to set up the Eureka Institute for translational medicine (www.eurekainstitute.org). He will share his passion about the topic translational life sciences.
Talk from Jeffrey Beekman
Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Beekman is a professor of pediatric pulmonology working at UMC Utrecht. He leads a research group that develops stem cell based culture and assay technology to model human pulmonary disease, and currently mostly focusses on treatment of cystic fibrosis. Jeffrey is mostly proud of the leading team effort that led to personalized treatment of cystic fibrosis within 4 years after the initial discovery. He will tell us more about his career choices and the importance of patient involvement in research.
Workshop: Let’s be translational!
During this workshop you will work in groups on a provided translational problem. You will learn techniques on problem solving and creative thinking, with the goal to get acquainted with translational life sciences.
Workshop: Get in contact with the patient!
A crucial part of translational life sciences is involving patients in your research. During this workshop we will touch upon patient participation. Furthermore, a patient will join us to share his experience in communication with scientists.
