Life Sciences Seminar - Wellbeing in ACTion

Life Sciences Seminar

to

Broad-topic seminar organised by the GSLS within the Introducing Life Sciences week on student wellbeing

Speakers

Simone Schut and Nynke Okma. Simone and Nynke are both experienced student coaches within the Faculty of Medicine.

Simone Schut is a trainer and coach at the Faculty of Medicine for both students and teachers. She is specialised in coaching on topics like stress, tension, or having little confidence in the future. Simone is originally a behavioral biologist and worked as a researcher, business consultant, and as a study advisor before finding her perfect fit as a full-time coach and trainer. She thoroughly enjoys her work and notices that the combination of being a coach with a science background helps her in connecting with students and staff in the science field.

Nynke Okma is a coach and student counseling advisor for the Faculty of Medicine. She studied International Development Sociology and started her career as an advisor in development aid. From there, she developed herself as a trainer, coach, and organisational advisor. Her expertise is on wellbeing, sense of purpose, and personal development. She enjoys exploring together with students how they can develop more freedom to do what they like and what gives them energy and fulfilment. Nynke likes to combine personal and societal development in her work.

Topic

Imagine learning to take your thoughts less seriously and rediscovering a sense of openness in the here and now. Imagine being able to embrace everything you would rather not experience. What if you can free yourself from the battle with your fears and separate yourself from inner critic and al the “shoulds” you impose on yourself? What if you can learn to navigate life’s challenges more effectively, so they don’t hold you back from pursuing your goals & dreams?

In this interactive presentation we introduce you to Acceptance Commitment Training (ACT) and explore how it can support your wellbeing, during and after your studies.
